Health, Safety & Environment
Safety Is How We Work, Not an Afterthought
At Overtime Mulching Services, every crew member goes home safe. Our HSE program is built on rigorous training, proactive hazard management, and a genuine commitment to protecting the land we work on.
Our Commitment
Zero Incidents. Every Job.
We operate in some of Alberta and Saskatchewan's most demanding environments — dense boreal forest, active oil and gas corridors, and remote agricultural land. That means our safety culture isn't optional. It's the foundation of everything we do. From pre-job hazard assessments to post-job site inspections, safety is embedded in every step of our process.
HSE Policies
How We Keep Our Crews Safe
Pre-Job Hazard Assessment
Every job begins with a thorough site walkthrough and hazard identification. We assess ground conditions, overhead hazards, wildlife, and proximity to utilities before any equipment is started.
Daily Tailgate Meetings
Crews hold a tailgate safety meeting at the start of every shift. We review the day's tasks, identify new or changing hazards, and confirm everyone is fit for duty.
Personal Protective Equipment
All personnel on site are required to wear appropriate PPE at all times — including hard hats, high-visibility vests, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and eye protection.
Equipment Inspection & Maintenance
All machines undergo pre-shift inspections using standardized checklists. Any deficiencies are reported and corrected before the equipment enters service.
Emergency Response Preparedness
Every crew carries a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and spill kit. All operators are trained in emergency response procedures and know the nearest medical facilities for every job site.
Incident Reporting & Investigation
All incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated. We use findings to improve our procedures and prevent recurrence — no blame culture, just continuous improvement.
Environmental Stewardship
Protecting the Land We Work On
Land clearing has a direct impact on the environment. We take that responsibility seriously. Our practices are designed to minimize disturbance, protect waterways, and leave sites in a condition that supports reclamation and future land use.
Mulch-in-Place Method
Rather than hauling debris off-site, we mulch material back into the ground where possible. This returns organic matter to the soil, reduces erosion, and eliminates the need for burning.
Riparian Zone Protection
We maintain buffer zones around creeks, wetlands, and water bodies as required by provincial regulations. Equipment is kept clear of sensitive riparian areas to prevent bank erosion and sedimentation.
Spill Prevention & Response
All equipment is inspected for fluid leaks before and during operation. Spill kits are on every machine and crew truck. Any spill is contained and reported immediately in accordance with provincial requirements.
Reclamation-Ready Site Prep
We work closely with landowners and project managers to ensure cleared land is left in a condition suitable for its intended use — whether that's seeding, construction, or natural reclamation.
